Inverter for a boat, car or RV – how to choose the right one

An inverter converts the 12V or 24V direct current from a vehicle into standard 230V mains electricity—exactly the same as what home appliances, laptops, and other devices use. It is a useful piece of equipment for a boat, campervan, or motorhome when you want to use regular electrical appliances without a fixed grid connection.

How does an inverter work in a car?

An inverter is connected to the vehicle's battery to convert direct current into alternating current. Smaller models (500–1000W) are suitable for charging laptops, phones, and small household appliances. Remember that a car battery will drain quickly—it is recommended to use the inverter while the engine is running or with a separate auxiliary battery.

For light use, the Green Cell Inverter 12V – 500W is a great choice, and for more demanding needs, the Green Cell Inverter 12V – 1000W is suitable.

Inverter for a boat — what should you consider?

In a boat, humidity and vibration place additional demands on the equipment. A pure sine wave is an important feature—it protects sensitive electronics and motors from "dirty" electricity.

For marine use, we recommend at least a 1000W model: Green Cell Inverter 12V – 1000W / 2000W.

The best inverter for a campervan or motorhome

In a campervan or motorhome, an inverter is in daily use. The power required depends on your devices—a coffee maker requires about 800–1000W, a microwave 1000–1500W. We recommend at least a 1500W model just to be safe:

12V or 24V — which one to choose? Check your vehicle

  • 12V is suitable for passenger cars, boats, and smaller campervans
  • 24V is suitable for heavy vehicles, trucks, and larger motorhomes that have a 24V electrical system

24V models: Green Cell 24V – 1500W / 3000W and Green Cell 24V – 3000W / 6000W.

Summary — how to choose the right inverter
